Civil Society
With its official presence in the Republic of Macedonia, Norway has contributed to a wide range of activities related to the development and improvement of the civil society in Macedonia. In this respect the Norwegian People’s Aid together with different local implementing partners conducted several projects. "Women Can do it" is a project that Norway has been supporting since its beginning in 2000. Implementation partners in this project are three non-governmental organisations in Macedonia: The Union of Women’s organisations in Macedonia, ESE and ANTICO, as well as the Ministry of labour and social affairs – the Unit for gender task force. Another project initiated by the NCA are the projects related to the media in Macedonia, and the strenghtening of the non governmental sector together with the local partner "Citizens for Citizens". A project that deserves attention is the reconstruction of the former cinema "NAPREDOK" in the old bazar in Skopje. The building, which has now been refurbished as a Children Theatre center, is part of the traditional architecture of the old Bazaar. The reconstruction of the building is a contribution to the wider plan for preservation of the old bazaar and the restoring of its dynamism.
