Activities & Projects.
Most of the day-to-day activities of the Royal Norwegian Society for Development deal with knowledge dissemination.
Viable rural communities.
Developing viable rural communities means helping to facilitate the growth of communities with a wide range of local business, social and cultural services. This includes everything from robust, sustainable agriculture and other local enterprises to the close social networks characteristic of rural life. By promoting this ’human dimension’, the Royal Norwegian Society for Development hopes that life outside of the urban centres remains an alternative for many people.
The cooperative approach.
Based on decades of experience in the field of cooperative organisations, especially in agriculture, the Royal Norwegian Society for Development focuses on the development and testing of models for cooperative business management and other forms of cooperation. In addition, the Society promotes the cooperative approach in the health, welfare and educational sectors, as well as among small-scale producers.
Mainstream agriculture.
Agriculture must be continuously developed to the benefit of both farmers and society at large. The Royal Norwegian Society for Development contributes to this process through development and pilot projects aimed at optimising farm production. The goal is to increase farm income by improving the utilisation of available resources.
International development cooperation /NORCOOP.
The Royal Norwegian Society for Development is an active cooperating partner in international development projects. As in the national activities, significant emphasis is placed on business development, e.g., by helping local cooperative initiatives to become competitive enterprises. In these projects, the Society uses its own professional expertise as well as relevant know-how and experience found among cooperating persons and organisations throughout the world. Many of the Society’s activities within development are conducted on behalf of - and in close cooperation with Norwegian cooperative associations and farmers’ unions. The Norwegian Agency finances our activities for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with contribution from our Norwegian partners.
