Propose candidates for promotion of union rights award

Last updated: 16/02/2011 // Industri Energi, a Norwegian federation of trade unions, annually presents an international award to a person or organisation that has been instrumental in promoting union rights and strengthening trade union organisation. Representatives and employees of trade unions worldwide are invited to propose candidates.

The deadline for nominating candidates is 1 March 2011. The Arthur Svensson International Award for Union Rights will be presented in Oslo on 16 June 2011, together with the award money of NOK 500 000, approximately EUR 65 000.

In 2010, the award was granted to Wellington Chibebe, Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU).

”Wellington Chibebe has been given the award because he is a courageous trade union leader in a country where dissidents face torture and death threats,” said Committee Chair Liv Undheim, Deputy Chair of Industri Energi at the time, when she presented the award.
