Norwegian School Online

21/04/2009 // Globalskolen provides education in the three subjects included in "Complementary education for children abroad": Norwegian, Social Studies and Religion&Ethics from 1st to 10th grade. Norwegian as a second language is organized in separate classes. The education is organized with workplans for the pupils every week. These workplans are asynchronized. This makes it possible for teachers and pupils to work individually and not necessarily be online at the same time. This means flexibility for the families and the variety of time zones do not affect the participation. The education still maintains a firm structure throughout 30 weeks each schoolyear.

The criterions to be approved as a pupil are:

• Living abroad minimum 15 weeks

• Participation in local school abroad

• Norwegian citizenship

• Group of age: 6-15 years

• Application within: June 10. or December 5.

The education is free for pupils fulfilling these criterions.

Most pupils do their Norwegian schoolwork weekly in 2 hours from home. Some small groups have specific arrangements in schools abroad, they are allowed to use the schools computers for a couple of hours weekly, within schooltime or after.

This schoolyear, 2008-2009, Globalskolen has 950 pupils, 95% of them in abroad countries. Globalskolen employs 22 teachers. Most of them have taught pupils at corresponding classes in ordinary Norwegian schools. They are well educated with special qualifications concerning ICT.
