Last updated: 10/05/2011 // Skopje Marathon 2011 was held on the 8th of May in Skopje, where 2000 marathoners were on the streets running in three different race categories, the 5000 meters humanitarian race for all citizens, the half marathon 21km race and the official 42km marathon race.

The first Skopje Marathon was organized in 1997, and from 2007 it has become an annual marathon event.  Last year, in 2010, the marathon established itself as one of the biggest and most popular sporting events in Macedonia, with more than 3000 athletes attending from more than 20 different countries around the world. This year's marathon had almost as many contestants as in 2010, with runners from 25 different countries.

The marathon was sponsored by the Norwegian Embassy in Skopje for the second year in a row, and several of the employees at the embassy also participated in the race, with good results. After the race was finished, the Embassy enjoyed Norwegian salmon and Macedonian rakija, celebrating their participation in the race.
