The Norwegian Government has decided to close its embassy in Skopje from mid-2012

Last updated: 20/10/2011 // The Norwegian Government has decided to close its embassy in Skopje from mid-2012, as a part of restructuring of Norway’s diplomatic presence abroad.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will make sure that Norway’s relations with Macedonia will be properly taken care of in the future. It is the intention to authorize the Norwegian embassy in Belgrade to be accredited to Macedonia.

Norway’s assistance to the Western Balkans, including Macedonia, is being scaled down as most of these countries are moving from conflict towards normalcy and stability. The need for Norway’s embassy in Skopje to follow up development projects and programmes has been reduced.

Likewise, consular affairs for the Norwegian embassy have been considerably reduced after the visa liberalization regime for Macedonia within the Schengen-area was implemented last year.
