Official Embassy Opening

28/11/2006 // On the 22nd of November the Norwegian and Swedish embassies had a joint opening of their new co-located premises.

The celebration of the official opening started on the 21st of November with a gala concert by the Macedonian National Opera and Ballet. Dignitaries from the Macedonian government and the international community where present. The special guest of the evening was Mr. Kai Eide, the Political Director of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Guests had the pleasure of attending a one-hour’s long concert, where Norwegian music was presented with compositions by Edvard Grieg. Swedish folk songs were also on the programme, combined with other composers such as Puccini and Verdi. After the concert, the five hundred guests were invited to a reception with Norwegian and Swedish food on the tables. A Norwegian and a Swedish exhibition were on display in the reception area of the opera.

22 November was the day of the official opening of the two Embassies. Instead of the more traditional cutting of ribbons, the guests of honour tied ribbons together. This was to symbolize the close ties between the two countries and the good cooperation with the Republic of Macedonia.  After opening speeches given by vice Prime Minister Zoran Stavrevski, State Secretary Hans Jeppson from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Political Director Kai Eide from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNDP Resident Representative Maria Luisa Silva Mejias, the Norwegian and Swedish embassies opened their doors to invited guests. In the premises there was an exhibition organized in co-operation with the Museum of Contemporary Art, showing works given by young Norwegian and Swedish artists to Skopje after the earthquake in 1963.
